  • This is a photograph of the Rabbi Yosef Caro Synagogue.  He was a 16th century Torah scholar who wrote the Shulchan Aruch, known as the Code of Jewish Law.  The raised level you see behind the bima to the left is where he sat as head of the Beit Din ( Rabbinical Council).  The bima is in the middle like traditional Sephardi shuls and you can see the glass bookcases, which house holy books that are geniza.
